Pachamama Restaurant, London, our Review

We had heard good things about Pachamama in London’s Marylebone district for some time. Yesterday my wife (Ms B) and I finally made our way. We arrived on time for our 12:15pm Saturday brunch reservation and were among the first few guests to be seated in this basement venue which still manages to let in some sunlight through windows in the ceiling.    We immediately liked the warm atmosphere that combines rustic elements featuring a lot of natural wood with a certain elegance and eclectic décor elements. Ms B kept on mentioning “so female-friendly” with a big smile, and when the space gradually filled with more and more groups of ladies, I made the stern decision not to bring the boyz here for a few pints (they actually do not do pints here, anyway, just bottled beer, cocktails, etc.). Pisqu, recent Peruvian Opening, Fitzrovia

[Pisco Sour feature photo by Pisco Trail piscotrail.com] We recently visited Pisqu (23 Rathbone Place), named after the eponymous birthplace of the national drink, for a quick Pisco Sour with a Peruvian friend of ours, who recommended the place as his favourite Peruvian restaurant and bar in London, in particular because – he says – the cuisine prepared by the Peruvian-Japanese team is authentic, not watered down for the Western palate. He might be slightly biased, because the bar manager is from his home town and the first twenty minutes were spent on our friend talking with his buddy about their village and what had changed in recent years, who left and who returned. Ceviche in Soho, a True Gem

After a day of eating, a few appointments and errands, we met up with a friend at the Peruvian awesomeness that is Ceviche Soho (17 Frith Street). Our friend, who is from Mexico, informed us that ceviche (Spanish pronunciation: [seˈβitʃe], a raw fish snack that has been cured in a mix of so-called leche de tigre, tiger’s milk, usually containing lime juice, chilli peppers, coriander, sliced onion, pepper, salt, fish juice, and varying other delicious ingredients) is common along the Pacific coast of Latin America all the way up north to Mexico, and he was at first slightly patriotic about the Mexican variety at the expense of the Peruvian one, but after a few bites of the Peruvian sea bass dish in front of us had to admit that it was incredibly tasty.
