One of my major client contracts in my day job as regulatory consultant had just been extended for another year a few days ago after 6 weeks of relative limbo and just a few days’ work here and there. So Ms B & I decided to treat ourselves to a nice meal at M Victoria’s Grill, or “M Grill.” We had visited (and blogged about) it before, so we knew that we’d enjoy it. Former thespian and current CEO of M Restaurant London, Martin Williams, founded the group in November 2014 with the opening of the first M restaurant in Threadneedle Street (followed by M Victoria in December 2015 and shortly after by M Twickenham), after having been Gaucho’s Managing Director for nine years. (He has just returned as part-time advisor to Gaucho besides his day job at M to help save the embattled steakhouse chain that has recently been […]
bbar London Victoria – our Review
My wife, Ms B, and I had planned to try out another one of the new restaurants and cafes at Nova Victoria, next to Victoria Station, for brunch, following our recent visits to Hai Cenato (our review here), Rail House Café (our review here), Aster (our review here), and Timmy Green (our review here), but decided that we weren’t in the mood for any of them that day. So: where to go? A quick look at Tripadvisor showed us that next-door bbar, which we had previously noticed because of the beautiful vertical garden front, but not investigated further, is ranking roughly #200 out of 20,000 London restaurants, so we thought we’d give them a shot. At first we asked to be seated on the terrace next to busy Bressenden Place, but after just a minute or two it became clear to us that it was way too noisy and […]
Hai Cenato, London Victoria
MsB and I visited Jason Atherton’s latest venture, Hai Cenato (Italian for ‘have you had dinner’), in Victoria’s brand-new Nova food district for lunch today, and we loved the food. The theme is New York Italian, even though we found it neither particular New York nor particular Italian (apart from the general upmarket U.S. diner theme and the fact they include pizza and pasta on their menu). We love food, but somehow had so far completely missed out on Atherton’s large number of restaurants worldwide, which include Pollen Street Social, who managed to win a Michelin star in their opening year. Prior to that the chef and restaurateur was executive chef at Gordon Ramsay’s Michelin starred Maze. I went for the set three-course lunch for £19.50, which according to the menu included Pink Lady apple, hazelnuts & parmesan creme fraiche, lovage, crispy kale for starters. I only spotted one of […]
Brunch at Timmy Green, Victoria
UPDATE 17.08.2019 – AFTER ANOTHER VISIT TODAY WE NO LONGER RECOMMEND THIS VENUE. THE FOOD WAS AT BEST MEDIOCRE. We’ve just come back from Brunch at Timmy Green Victoria, in Nova Food district, a further Daisy Green outlet (the remaining two besides the homonymous flagship outlet and Timmy Green being Beany Green and Peggy Green), aimed at bringing a flair of Bondi and Coogee to Old Blightey. We had just completed a 10k run for charity earlier today and felt rather peckish, so decided to go for three main courses: their ‘Bondi’ breakfast plate, basically a Full English with half an avocado and house-made chilli pesto added on a great-looking and great-tasting two slices of charcoal bread, soft sourdough bread – if we understood correctly – coloured in black with organic colouring, and baked in a charcoal oven with plenty of fine ash still clinging to the crust.
