We used to live in Pimlico (near the beautiful Vincent Square, on the other side of Vauxhall Bridge Road), and we always loved Delizie d’Italia, a tiny Italian delicatessen with a small amount of indoor and outdoor seating. It isn’t located in the best part of Pimlico, right on Lupus Street, opposite the notorious Churchill Gardens estate. But the area has gone a long way and is perfectly safe during day time. A lot of great places have opened in the area during the past decade, including, for example a vintage clothes store frequented by A-listers. The famous 1930s neo-Georgian Dolphin Square apartment complex is only a stone’s throw away. A fabulous Michelin-starred restaurant is just half a mile away towards Victoria station (our review here). From Pimlico tube station Delizie is less than five minutes’ walk. The quality of the service very much depends on the mood of […]
Cambridge Street Kitchen – our Restaurant Review
We had been to Cambridge Street Kitchen twice before. The first time we had been very impressed, the second time rather disappointed, so we decided to give it another shot before posting a review, and it turned out to be a good decision. The atmosphere to us had always seemed very pleasant, and nothing had changed in that regard when we arrived for brunch this morning. The staff are friendly, and the whole restaurant has got a hip vibe to it (but luckily without the hipsters), with art work adorning the walls and quirky décor and furniture. We ordered their highest priced breakfast dish, their Smoked Salmon and Truffle (£14) with an added Boudin Noir (£4, fancy black pudding, more or less), and Pancakes with Berries (£8.5), one Bloody Mary (£7.5), one Strawberry and Orange Juice (£4) and two Double Macchiatos (£2.4 each). The food and drinks arrived quickly […]
Weekday Breakfast at the Cinnamon Club
My wife and I had enjoyed Indian cuisine at Westminster’s upmarket Cinnamon Club on a number of occasions (we used to live more or less next-door) and we had always had a lovely experience. Maybe it was a mistake to try out their English breakfast (the “Cinnamon Club Breakfast”), which differs from their regular English breakfast by including both black and white black pudding, and by £3.50, which brings the bill (including coffee) up to £17. There was absolutely nothing special about this Full English, and I’d even dare to say that many Greasy Spoons in the area do it a lot better for just over a fiver. Of course, the Cinnamon Club being the Cinnamon Club, it’s all in a very luxurious, pleasant environment. Many MPs and other big heads have their morning coffee here over a cup of coffee, which is the reason why I waited until nearly […]
Review: Rail House Cafe, Victoria
We had previously visited the Rail House Café’s much talked-about sister Riding House Café in Fitzrovia and had not been overly impressed (our review here). Visiting the newly opened Rail House Café in London Victoria seemed like a chore at first, but turned out to be an absolutely brilliant week-day brunch experience (consider our Update at the end of this article though). I ordered their signature Burgerdict (burger Benedict) and steak tartare. Both dishes were prepared to perfection. The Burger with egg Benedict on top was among the tastiest burgers I have had in years. The steak tartare was incredibly delicious too, with the wasabi paste that came with it. Like all the best steak tartares it wasn’t made of minced meat, but of little short strips of raw beef, that had just the right texture. Not least of all, the service was very quick, professional, and friendly, and […]
