On our recent visit to Cambridge, Cambridge Escape Rooms, very kindly invited us to check out their new Heaven and Hell (intermediate) experience. They are ranking #11 out of 187 things to do in Cambridge on Tripadvisor, just below University of Cambridge (#10) and River Cam (#9) and above King’s College (#15) and The Backs (the famous backyards of the colleges, next to the River Cam, #16). Needless to say that they hold a Certificate of Excellence. Ms B and I were joined by two friends from London, one of whom had done two dozen rooms and – despite the fact that she’s not giving away compliments easily – told us afterwards, that this was by far the best room she had ever done. The premises are a 10-minute cab ride from the city centre. We were greeted immediately by Sam, one of the friendly staff, who explained the […]
Jetski Safari in Poole – Proper Adrenaline Rush
During Ms B’s and my recent weekend stay at the New Forest, we only spent the first day (and night) in the New Forest, and took the train to Poole on the following day, because we had booked ourselves into a jetski adventure with Jetski Safaris. We had initially planned on doing the jetski ride together, but the water outside the harbour area was partially fairly rough that morning and many of the activities on offer had already been cancelled, so Ms B gave it a miss and did a cake and muffin safari instead. The instruction video was followed by a few more bits of guidance from our instructor, and then we were on our way walking the 5mins from the boat shack to the jetskis. I was slightly nervous, because it had been so long since I last rode a jetski (in the Maldives in 2010, where the […]
Rowley’s Restaurant, St James’s, a Must for Steaklovers
We have just returned from our lunch at Rowley’s in famous Jermyn Street in London’s poshest part of town: St. James’s. (I know what you’re thinking, we were shocked too when we found out many years ago, but Berkeley Square’s Mayfair is only the second best part of town, well, never mind.) It wasn’t our first visit and it certainly won’t be our last. We love this restaurant that could very well be London’s finest steak house. For over forty years, steaklovers from all over town and from far beyond have come to this elegant temple of carnivorous pleasures and a good many of them will have enjoyed the same signature dish we had today (and have every time we visit): a very large portion of chateaubriand steak with herb Roquefort and butter sauce and unlimited French fries. As usual we took advantage of the great offers that are […]
Fera, Claridge’s – Fine Dining in Mayfair
We have just returned from our lunch at Michelin-starred Fera at Claridge’s , whose kitchen has been headed by Australian chef Matt Starling since February 2017. Fera focuses on British cuisine. We had been having meals at Claridge’s in the past, when it was called “Gordon Ramsey at Claridge’s” and when it was labelled London’s most overpriced, overrated restaurant. However, Ms B, my wife, found out that instead of charging you £300+ for a meal for two with wine, like in the olden days, there was now a surprisingly acceptable lunch deal on offer: three courses and a glass of champagne or gin and tonic for £42 per person. For an additional £10 you can add their signature snacks (we didn’t, because we weren’t that hungry). There is an undeniable wow effect when you enter the dining room through a curtain-lined entrance which leads to a rotunda, where the room […]
Lock’d, London – Escape Room Experience
Lock’d invited Ms B, me, and two of our friends today to try out one of their escape room experiences. I have to admit that I mainly went along, because Ms B and her friends were absolutely convinced that escape rooms are brilliant. My 30th birthday is quite a few years back, I consider myself a pretty level-headed person, and I’m not a natural when it comes to being locked up with other people in a room in a stress situation, having to solve a puzzle within 60 minutes in order to be allowed back to join the living out there. I watch Sherlock Holmes movies to be distracted, to switch my mind off, to loosely ponder how someone with a funny face like Cumberbatch managed to become a world-famous actor and hottie with the ladies, and to relax, not to help the detective solve his crimes (I’m not a […]
