Restaurant Lafleur, Frankfurt – Our Review

Recently, Berkeley Square Barbarian was treated to a phenomenal ten-course dinner with wine-pairing by two-starred restaurant Lafleur. To be precise, only Mr B was, because he’s currently on a consultancy assignment in Frankfurt for up to one year, while Ms B goes about her business in London, and we usually only see each other on the weekends. Ms B was not very pleased, as you can imagine, but tough luck. From 2018, Lafleur will be part of the exclusive association Les Grandes Tables Du Monde, which includes 172 of the world’s best restaurants. It is already part of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux group, which is comprised of some 500 luxury hotels and restaurants worldwide.   These two photos are (c) Lafleur, other photos (c) BSqB. Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra at the Old Opera, Frankfurt

While Ms B was visiting Mr B from London in Frankfurt recently, we decided to buy surprisingly good value tickets (at €50 each, for stalls seats in the centre 20 metres away from the stage) to see the world’s best symphony orchestra, Amsterdam’s Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, perform pieces of Haydn and Mahler at Alte Oper in Frankfurt. Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 was, as it happens, conducted by the composer himself at the 1904 Dutch premiere of his work. This time around, it was directed by the amazing Daniele Gatti, who took over the reins at RCO at the beginning of the last season. V’uisine – Frankfurt’s Best Vietnamese Restaurant

For the past few months, while on a consultancy assignment in the beautiful city of Frankfurt, far away from London, I was kind of forced to use a laundromat once a week for a while, until my landlord got around to having the washing machine in my serviced apartment fixed. As it happened, this turned out to be a very lucky coincidence, because my laundromat turned out to be on the opposite side of the street to Frankfurt’s best Vietnamese street food tapas place: V’uisine. It ranks #38 of 2,068 Restaurants in Frankfurt. I enjoyed dinner there once a week every week. Classico, Frankfurt, our Restaurant Review

Since my recent temporary relocation to Frankfurt for a consultancy assignment, I’ve dived into the local culinary scene from Monday to Thursday every evening to explore what’s on offer. Last Monday I was walking towards my hotel from the client’s office when I stumbled across this true gem. Ranking #78 out of 2,000 Frankfurt restaurants (#17 out of 90 fine dining restaurants) on Tripadvisor, Classico doesn’t look particularly upmarket from the outside, with its standard off-the-shelf outdoor seating furniture and – when I arrived – none of the tables covered with tablecloth yet (because the guests were still screening the menus or ordering). It is located centrally, half-way between the Old Opera House (Alte Oper) and the Exhibition Centre (Messe).
