One recent evening after work, La Scuderia, located in Frankfurt’s elegant Westend quarter, invited Berkeley Square Barbarian to try their four-course menu. The restaurant is very popular among locals but equally among well-heeled tourists, bankers, and travelling businessmen and -women. The Michelin Guide inspectors particularly emphasised the high-quality, fresh ingredients. Like all guests that evening, I was immediately welcomed by the lovely, energetic, and humorous manager, Ms Giebel, and led to my table. All the staff make you feel like you’re one of the many regulars, even if it’s your first time here. They’re very friendly but always professional and never intrusive. Different from nearly every other restaurant I have ever been to, La Scuderia don’t usually show their guests a menu or advertise the choices of the day on a chalk board. Instead, Ms Giebel let me settle down with a small glass of prosecco, then asked me a […]
V’uisine – Frankfurt’s Best Vietnamese Restaurant
For the past few months, while on a consultancy assignment in the beautiful city of Frankfurt, far away from London, I was kind of forced to use a laundromat once a week for a while, until my landlord got around to having the washing machine in my serviced apartment fixed. As it happened, this turned out to be a very lucky coincidence, because my laundromat turned out to be on the opposite side of the street to Frankfurt’s best Vietnamese street food tapas place: V’uisine. It ranks #38 of 2,068 Restaurants in Frankfurt. I enjoyed dinner there once a week every week. This time around, I had Khoai Dau Cari (sweet potato tofu cream curry), Bo Luc Lac (diced beef cubes with roasted pepper and onions), Heo Quay (roast pork belly marinaded in honey and soy sauce), and Saigon Ga Quien (battered marinaded chicken), each for €6.20, plus two portions […]
Classico, Frankfurt, our Restaurant Review
Since my recent temporary relocation to Frankfurt for a consultancy assignment, I’ve dived into the local culinary scene from Monday to Thursday every evening to explore what’s on offer. Last Monday I was walking towards my hotel from the client’s office when I stumbled across this true gem. Ranking #78 out of 2,000 Frankfurt restaurants (#17 out of 90 fine dining restaurants) on Tripadvisor, Classico doesn’t look particularly upmarket from the outside, with its standard off-the-shelf outdoor seating furniture and – when I arrived – none of the tables covered with tablecloth yet (because the guests were still screening the menus or ordering). It is located centrally, half-way between the Old Opera House (Alte Oper) and the Exhibition Centre (Messe). As soon as the menu arrived, I realised that this was not going to be your average restaurant experience, more like fine dining, certainly judging by the prices. Chef Dimitris […]
