Brunch at Coco Momo, Kensington

We have just returned from one of the best brunches we’ve recently had. Coco Momo in Kensington is an American restaurant. (It is no relation of Coco di Mama, an Italian themed chain, but has a sibling in Marylebone and is owned by Food & Fuel who also own ten other places in town.) We were seated at the outdoor seating area on the sidewalk, which was great for people-watching and, thanks to the limited car traffic, not too noisy.    After some deliberation, we opted for the matcha chia seed breakfast bowl (£5), the smoked salmon and avocado on sourdough toast, alfalfa, tomato, chilli, poached egg (£9.75), and the two free-range baked eggs, tomato, kale, sweet potato & halloumi (£9.25), one flat white (£2.75), one Americano (had to be done, right?) with milk (£2.55), one fruit & veg juice (ginger, beetroot, apple, £3.85) and one non-alcoholic Passionfruit Mojito £3.85. Michelin-Starred Restaurant Benoit, Paris – our Review

We have recently returned from a visit at Alain Ducasse’s Michelin-starred Benoit. The master himself said about this beautiful gem, that celebrated its 100th anniversary a few years ago: “There’s no other place as typically Parisian as Benoit. I have a very special affection for this beautiful house, with its own history and generosity. Benoit is a friendly place, full of memories and shared pleasure. It reflects a certain way of life and tradition that we want to preserve.”    The restaurant has a lovely, perhaps slightly stuffy vibe about it. Service was very attentive and friendly throughout. We both opted for the three-course set menu deal for €39. As starters we chose cauliflower veloute, croutons, as well as a warm potato salad with smoked haddock. The Seven Stars – Quite Possibly London’s Quirkiest Pub

Located just behind the Royal Courts of Justice in the borough of Westminster (the border to the City runs through Chancery Lane, a stone’s throw away), this tiny little pub, which was built in 1602 as an alehouse, is famous for the case closing celebrations of barristers. However, it’s by no means solely frequented by lawyers and sees its fair share of builders, bankers, office clerks, local residents, and students from nearby King’s College and the London School of Economics, two of the best universities of the country.    It’s crammed with people nearly all day every day. We usually just stop by for a quick pint after work. Today was the first time we actually found a table and stayed for a meal. Cafe Boheme, Soho – our Review

We’ve recently visited Café Boheme in Soho for the first time, for brunch. There had been a fair bit of hype around this place over the years, so our expectations were high. We were immediately taken in by the pleasant, warm, very French café atmosphere. Service was perhaps a bit abrupt and not overly helpful, but hey, that is very Parisian, probably a good thing!    We ordered the obligatory Eggs Royale (£9), ham and cheese omelette (£7), and a dish which now seems to have dropped off the online menu, but which contained pastry, strawberries, and cream for roughly £6. Riding House Cafe – Our Review

We had previously been to the much hyped Riding House Café, and didn’t think that much of it, slightly above average perhaps. However, then they opened a sister café called Rail House Café, which really blew our socks off (review here), so we thought we should give it another shot. We weren’t hungry, it was mid-afternoon and we had had brunch earlier that day, so we just ordered a cheeseburger (smoked cheddar, tomato relish, mayo, gherkin, chips; £15) to share and a couple of drinks. The food arrived quickly, and we were pleased with the look and taste. The chips were above average. In the end we left some of the burger on the plate, because we had bitten on several bits of bone, one of which nearly took one of my fillings out, not ideal. Perhaps we are just unlucky.
