Previously located in Deptford, near London’s Greenwich neighbourhood, the family-owned and -operated restaurant moved to Surrey Keys, in 2008. Ever since then we were regular visitors. It is just twelve minutes’ walk from Bermondsey Jubilee line tube station. Quite a few of our friends are ethnic Vietnamese, and Café East was their go-to destination. Thus it became our go-to destination for Vietnamese food, too, often joining our friends, but equally on our own. Over the past dozen years we must have visited at least once per year on average. I remember how my first visit with Ms B was a true revelation. Up until then I had never had outrageously brilliant Vietnamese food, only ever very good Vietnamese food. Then, over the years, we kept on coming back, and each and every time the food had gotten just a tiny tad less impressive. From a clear 5 out of 5 […]
London in the Sky – Brunching 30m Above Ground
I’ve checked out London in the Sky yesterday, after Ms B found a steep discount online for their Prosecco & Cake 11:00am 45-minute experience (£62.10 instead of £109.00, now expired, no complaints). It’s impossible to miss them, if you take the main exit of North Greenwich tube station and walk towards the main entrance of the O2 Arena. They’ll be right there, slightly to your left, literally when you walk out of the tube station. There are two giant mobile cranes, each of which has a seating-arrangement (roughly 20 chairs around a table, covered with a roof, but with any floor missing) dangling on a chain from the respective end of the extended arm. I’ve been doing so many activities involving heights lately, that it feels silly to mention it every time, but I feel it is important. Hopefully it will encourage some of you, who have similar issues, to […]
Han Kang – Quick Korean Cuisine in Fitzrovia – our Review
We had been to Han Kang a few times before. Every now and then we enjoy a quick meal there in this little Korean restaurant, hidden away in a side street in Fitzrovia, just off Oxford Street near Tottenham Court Road station. We ordered Chicken Mandu (£7.50) and Haemul Pa-Jeon (£9.50) for starters, and Soon Tofu Jjigae (£10.50) and Pork Bulgogi (£11.50) for mains. The Mandu, also called gyoza, little dumplings filled with chicken were tasty, even though nothing special. The Koreans’ favourite appetizer, Haemul Pa-Jeon, some sort of seafood scallion pancake, was perhaps a little bit old and too cold, but the flavours were intense and just right nonetheless. What really impressed us were our mains. Ms B loved her tofu seafood stew, Jjigae, and I was very pleased with my bulgogi, little strips of barbecued pork in spicy hot sauce with onions. The Barbarians are good […]
